Our Program

WTF- We The Family Blog Radio

When kids are born, parents/guardians usually encourage them to walk and talk as soon, and as much as possible; however, after they reach a certain age, they are just told to sit down and shut up. BUT, DID YOU KNOW By not allowing or encouraging youth to openly express themselves can lead to depression?
According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), “An estimated 3.1 million adolescents aged 12 to 17 in the United States had at least one major depressive episode. This number represented 12.8% of the U.S. population aged 12 to 17.” OUR ANSWER? We The Family (WTF) Radio Show, which consists of a podcast based on the ideas, views, and opinions of youth themselves. In this program they learn how to:
Operate all software and hardware associated with recording and uploading the show, brainstorming ideas and present them clearly, work as a team to convey ideas and having healthy debates when appropriate with elders and peers.
This platform allows youth to express themselves freely while giving a voice to what they feel is important. Whether it's tragedies such as a school shooting or the latest sports and entertainment news, adolescents benefit greatly from simply talking about it, as a family.

The Arts

Since the dawn of time human beings have been expressing themselves through Art. From the earliest cave paintings to the most well-choreographed dance, the benefits of creating is unsurpassed when it comes to youth empowerment! This program youth will be introduced to:
Painting; Poetry; Dance; Vision Board Making; Drawing Group Murals; Music Production; Singing; Acting; Video Production & Performance Workshops.
Overall, youth will be exposed to many different Art forms in order to foster self-expression. The goal is for them to have fun exploring and if they like a particular Art form, we will assist them in pursing it further.

Mentoring Program

DID YOU KNOW Mentors are defined as an experienced trusted advisor, and most SUCCESSFUL people attribute one or many mentors as a big contributing factor to their success? From day one, youth will be given a Coach who will be their Mentor. Each student has specific needs, which will be identified in the initial assessment.
Mentorship Will Include:
Individual Counseling Group Counseling, S.M.A.R.T. Goal Setting, Internships, Assistance With Various Needs and Gender Specific programming.
Mentor-ship is a continuous ever evolving part of our program. In addition to being mentored by the coaches, we also bring in guest speakers to introduce youth to successful people throughout the community that they may be able to relate to and acquire as Mentors.

Employability Skills Training

WHAT IF We provided a car to a youth who did not have a license, no knowledge of road rules and zero experience? They would be a hazard to themselves and others around them and the same would apply if we just gave them a job without proper training. Our Employability Skills Training includes:
Soft skills i.e. how to properly speak, act, and conduct themselves in a business setting
Work Place Scenarios
Financial Literacy Activities
Public Speaking
Team Building Games
Conflict Resolution
Enhanced Communication (Reading and Writing)
Time Management
Leadership Skills
Whether students are looking to obtain gainful employment or create a thriving business, our program strives to create an environment that will propel youth to achieve their highest potential.
