Our Program

WTF- We The Family Blog Radio

When kids are born, parents/guardians usually encourage them to walk and talk as soon, and as much as possible; however, after they reach a certain age, they are just told to sit down and shut up. DID YOU KNOW By not allowing or encouraging youth to openly express themselves, it can lead to depression. According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), “An estimated 3.1 million adolescents aged 12 to 17 in the United States had at least one major depressive episode. This number represented 12.8% of the U.S. population aged 12 to 17.” OUR ANSWER We The Family (WTF) Radio Show which consists of a podcast based on the ideas, views, and opinions of the youth themselves. During this part of the program, they will learn how to:
Operate all software and hardware associated with recording and uploading show
Brainstorm ideas, and present them clearly
Work as a team to convey ideas and have healthy debates when appropriate
This platform allows youth to express themselves freely, while giving a voice to what they feel is important. Whether it is tragedies such as school shootings or the latest sports and entertainment news, adolescents would benefit greatly from simply talking about it, as family.

The Arts

Since the dawn of time, human beings have expressed themselves through the arts. From the earliest cave paintings to the most well-choreographed dance, the benefits of doing art is unsurpassed when it comes to youth empowerment. For this portion of the program youth will be introduced to:
Painting; Poetry ; Dance ; Vision board making ; Drawing
Group Murals ; Music production ; Acting ; Video production & Performance workshops
Overall, youth will be exposed to many different art forms in order to foster self-expression. The goal is for them to have fun exploring and if they take a liking to a particular art form, we will assist them in pursing it further.
